The Remodeling Project
Matters Of The Heart (Day 13)
You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Matthew 12:34
There is nothing unusual about seeing a home being remodeled to make it more appealing and attractive, whether it’s to a buyer, the owner, or to help enhance the look of a neighborhood. The majority of the time the remodeling is completed on the outside of the house. New roof, new siding, new doors, and a fresh coat of paint is all that is done to give a house a new look and appearance. But when one peeks through the windows what will they see? Rickety, old furniture, out-dated carpet, and dusty, antique appliances. That’s the same manner we sometimes use when we think we need a change.
We sometimes just work on the exterior. New clothes, new hairdos/haircuts, new makeup, and new shoes. If one would peek through your eyes, which are the windows to the soul, what would they see on the inside? Old ways, unforgiveness, destructive mindsets, and dishonesty may be what’s dwelling where no man can see. When God was looking for a king he sent Samuel to Jesse’s house. Samuel thought Eliab, Jesse’s oldest son, would be the king because of his handsome appearance. But the Lord told
Samuel “The Lord does not look at things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart”(1st Samuel 16:7, NIV). No matter how much we remodel and change the outside of the body, if we house the same old, destructive
heart all our work is in vain.
Prayer Focus: Father I need a change, but let that change start from the inside. Create in me a pure heart that sees the good in all people regardless of the condition of the outside.
