Restoration VS Retaliation
Matters Of The Heart Devotional (Day 14)

David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”  2 Samuel 9:1

HeartCover           Saul had tried to kill King David, however, after the death of Saul and his son Jonathan, King David said “Is there anyone that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

This passage highlights the responsibility of God’s people to reach out to others, even if they have caused you suffering.  We must reject retaliation but have a heart to reach out and plant seeds of promise and peace.

King David sent for the grandson of his former oppressor, not for retribution, but for restoration.  For the sake of the friendship he had with Jonathan, David restored the land and servants of Saul to his grandson, Mephibosheth.

Prayer Focus:  Heavenly Father, we pray for a heart to reach out to others and be a builder of reconciliation and peace.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
